Arne Slot Asserts He Is Secure and Has The Club's Support Following PSV Humiliation
The Liverpool head coach admitted that it's understandable for concerns to be asked about his position following a further heavy defeat against the Dutch champions.
Liverpool suffered their ninth loss in twelve games, representing the club's poorest streak after being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were taken apart by the Eredivisie title holders on a punishing evening at Anfield.
“I'm confident, I'm fine, I have got plenty of support from management,” Slot commented.
“It's important to reverse this trend and secure a win naturally but if you are working as a coach and struggling then it's expected that people question you.”
He added, “I accept my situation. It is not the first time I've found myself in a tough spot but it's crucial that we turned it around.”
Conversations with Liverpool Hierarchy
Upon being questioned to expand on his dialogues with the club's leadership, the head coach explained:
“We talk a lot. They assist to the team and for me and we have those conversations but they don't phone me all the time each day to say they trust me.”
He further stated, “During our regular conversations we have I feel the trust. However I haven’t spoken to them after this defeat so far so let’s see.”
Familiar Failings and Squad Reaction
The manager lamented recurring weaknesses from his Liverpool side in their Champions League defeat, specifically wasted chances and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more forthright in his evaluation of the current crisis.
“I don’t have the answers. Frankly, I don’t. I’m saying that to everybody,” the midfielder said.
“It is unacceptable. I don’t even need to wait to consider it. I'm beyond being angry internally. I’m at the point currently where I simply lack the vocabulary.”
He added, “It’s hard because I play for the team I support. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen Liverpool for years.”
“In a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team experiencing a period such as this with performances so bad.”
He stated, “However we continue to wear the crest on our shirts. And until that badge is gone, we’re always going to compete.”
“We’re going to try to get this team back to its rightful place, show everyone once more what Liverpool stands for and why it's known as the top club in the world.”
“But right now, things are bad and we have to turn it around.”
